Just when i decided to go to bed, my roommate Carolyn was flipping the channels and apparently KQED was broadcasting the entire concert, of Rufus! Rufus! Rufus! does Judy! Judy! Judy!, without any commercial interruptions.
Thank you, PBS.
She found it fascinating that not only because i’m very foreign to anything about Judy Garland, but also she apparently had no idea how in love i am with Rufus Wainwright. In some sense that might be her first time seeing the schoolgirlish and giddy side of me, despite we’ve been roommates for well over six months.
The concert itself, was of course flawless. There’s really no comparison of how i feel toward him, maybe with an exception of Bjork. Despite not knowing most of the songs he performed, the performance itself was spectacular. I am i love with how charming he is and how he doesn’t take himself seriously outside of the performance.
During the actual performance, however, is absolutely amazing. There’s no comparison in the way he convey his emotions and vulnerability through his voice and his body language. Here’s an old performance of one of my favourite songs — Dinner at Eight. It’s a song he had written about his growing up with his dad and the constant fights between them, and how in the song he was basically saying “I can be stronger than you, just wait and see.” It’s very dark, but i’m sure everyone can relate to that (at least I can, absolutely.)
